The Unidentified Redhead (Redhead, #1) - Alice Clayton This contemporary romance novel is one of the funniest I’ve ever read. Grace Sheridan is a 33 year-old spitfire with striking red hair and a nutty sense of humor. Upon seizing another chance at an acting career in L.A., Grace meets the next “It Boy”, Jack Hamilton, a 24 year-old Brit starring in a series of movies adapted from a wildly popular book series. At first Grace finds it unlikely that the young stud will have any interest in her, but she doesn’t realize just how appealing she can be.

Grace’s personality leaps off the page. She’s vibrant, fun, and sarcastic, which is clear from her very first encounter with Jack. First we learn that Grace discards hated piles of melba toasts all around the house when eating Chex mix. Five seconds later she’s asking Jack “Are you looking at my boobies?” while doing a little “shimmy shake.” Jack doesn’t know what to make of her but thinks she’s fascinating, and his nickname “Nuts Girl” is perfect for her.

Here she is after Jack first touches her arm: “Ok, look. Whenever I hear people say that they felt ‘sparks,’ I usually think it’s a load of poo. I mean, I have felt attraction to people, sure, and I have even felt some instant lust. But sparks? Please . . . Then he touched my skin. Sparks. Sparks. Sparks. Hot sparks. Flashing sparks. Lightning bolt sparks. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph sparks.”

Their first kiss on the beach is sheer perfection, only to be marred by a seagull crapping on her head. Their first makeout session is perfection, only to be marred by her back getting burned by Starbucks coffee when Jack splays her out on the table. LOL!

I love Grace’s bff Holly, who says things to Grace like “So, how is the British invasion going? Has he invaded your hoohah yet?”

The banter between Grace and Jack is hilarious.

Jack: “It’s always the accent that drives you American women crazy. I’d no idea you fancied it, too…”
Grace: “Oooh, fancied it. Say more like that.”
“Like what, Grace?”
“Talk British to me.”
“Dustbins.”
“More.”
“Crumpets.”
“More!”
“Knickers.”
“Say put another shrimp on the barbie!”
“Grace, that’s Australian.”
“Say it!”
“Fine. Put another shrimp on the barbie. Bloody hell.”

Jack comes across as so sweet and clever, and I look forward to getting to know his personality better in future installments of the Redhead series. Alice Clayton writes wonderful romantic comedy. Although the sex scenes are fun and unique, I estimate they take up about 30% of the novel, and that’s a bit much for my tastes. I tend to enjoy more plot among the intimacy.

This is a fantastic debut novel and I highly recommend it! Grace and Jack's antics will completely crack you up.
